The Melrose Law Center marked a green milestone for Vista, California by completing the city’s first commercial solar energy system under the California Solar Initiative (CSI) Program and the largest system in Vista to date. Melrose Law Center chose SPG Solar, Inc. to design and install the 110 kilowatt solar photovoltaic (PV) system which spans across three buildings that comprise the Center.
Bill Harmatz, owner and President of Melrose Law Center and Vista Entertainment Center, has long been involved civically and environmentally in the Vista community. A local business owner and community member for 25 years, Harmatz wanted to take their green efforts one step further by installing solar energy.
“We wanted to go green and reduce our carbon footprint. It was a nice bonus that there were economic incentives upfront and even nicer to have the capacity to produce our own electricity using clean, solar power. It makes us very happy,” said Bill Harmatz. “Among the proposals we received for our solar energy system, SPG Solar’s proposal was the most personalized and professional. We were pleased with all aspects of the project,” continued Harmatz.
“I am very excited about the ‘green’ leadership the Harmatz Family has shown,” remarked Bob Campbell, Vista City Council member and member of the Regional Energy Working Groups of the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). “This solar energy system will reduce the need to provide more traditional energy and improve our air quality.”
Over its 30-year expected lifespan, the PV system at Melrose Law Center is expected to offset approximately 3,960 tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to removing 720 cars off the road. The system is estimated to save Melrose Law Center over $730,000 during its lifetime.
