Established in 1990, the Global Environment Fund (GEF) invests in businesses around the world that provide cost-effective solutions to environmental and energy challenges. The firm manages private equity dedicated to clean technology, emerging markets, and sustainable forestry, with approximately $1 billion in aggregate capital under management. GEF’s investors include prominent endowments, foundations, family offices, and pension funds.
SAM Private Equity is a market leader in the field of Clean Tech and Sustainable private equity investing. In July 2009, Robeco’s Clean Tech and Sustainability Private Equity team, a subsidiary of the AAA-rated Rabobank Group, moved to Zurich, Switzerland, to join SAM, an investment boutique focused exclusively on Sustainability Investing. The move has enabled the company to bolster the synergies between SAM’s sustainability research and investment capabilities in listed companies and Robeco Private Equity’s expertise in investing in non-listed companies in the growing Clean Tech sector. Now named SAM Private Equity, the team manages approximately $800 million in Sustainable and Clean Tech assets.
