The Challenge

As part of PepsiCo’s Performance with Purpose mission, SPG Solar, Inc. was selected to install high power, light weight solar power (PV) systems on two distribution warehouses to further sustainability efforts. The systems had to be installed quickly, economically, and meet specific energy generation goals.

The Solution

SPG Solar designed and installed a 294kWp system at the Fullerton, Calif., facility to off set 100 percent of electrical demand during peak summer rate periods, and designed and installed a 500kWp system at the Gatorade Distribution Center in Tolleson, Ariz., to reduce electrical costs and decrease greenhouse gas emissions in Arizona. Both systems feed into the main building electrical panel.

Noteworthy Achievements

The Benefits

PepsiCo has seen energy purchases at the two facilities drop, in addition to obtaining substantial incentive payments. The Fullerton PV system generates 463,390 kWh per year and the Tolleson system generates 760,000kWh per year. The on-site PV electrical generation translated into GHG emission savings from reduced utility supply is equivalent to 251 tons and 457 tons of CO2 for the states of California and Arizona respectively.

The Green Line

PepsiCo has been an EPA Energy Star partner since 2006. The installation of solar has helped PepsiCo save energy and continue to be at the forefront of corporate sustainability and responsibility.
