The Opportunity
States Logistics Services, Inc. is the premiere third party provider on the west coast offering logistics, warehousing, transportation and packaging services. They saw the opportunity and the economics to upgrade their distribution center with solar and realized the benefit of promoting sustainability and influencing the entire food and beverage supply chain.
The Solution
A customized roof solar power system, which powers nearly the entire 300,000 square foot facility. Not only is States Logistics Services saving on their electricity bill monthly and fixing their energy costs in the long term, but they are also continuing their environmental stewardship. This solar project adds to their prior sustainable initiatives - plastic recycling program, energy saving lighting system and a biodiesel truck fleet.
Solar Power Generation
- The roof and carport systems produce 562,661 kilowatt hours (kWh) yearly, providing energy during peak hours of the day, when electricity loads and prices are at the highest. The system will meet approximately 82 percent of the facility’s electric load.
- The solar system requires minimal maintenance, runs silently, and has an expected operating life of 25 years or more.
Environmental Benefits
- Produces enough electricity to power 51 average American homes year after year
- Reduces greenhouse gases by 10,096 tons over the 25 year warranted life of the solar panels
- Equivalent to removing 76 passenger vehicle cars from our congested highways annually
