The Opportunity
U.S. Foods, one of the United States largest broadline foodservice distributors of national, private label and signature brand items, was looking for an opportunity to invest in a clean technology for a strong return, while more efficiently serving customers and continuing environmental stewardship.
The Solution
A customized roof and carport solar power system, seamlessly installed with no interruption to daily operations, allowed U.S. Foods to showcase its commitment to sustainability while reducing costs. By going solar, U.S. Foods demonstrates to their customers that goods purchased are coming from a environmentally sustainable company.
Solar Power Generation
- The roof and carport systems produce 1,353,118 kilowatt hours (kWh) yearly, providing energy during peak hours of the day, when electricity loads and prices are at the highest. The system will meet approximately 24 percent of the facility’s electric load.
- The solar system requires minimal maintenance, runs silently, and has an expected operating life of 25 years or more.
Environmental Benefits
- Adds up to 70 green jobs in the community
- Produces enough electricity to power 123 average American homes year after year
- Reduces greenhouse gases by 24,278 tons over the 25 year warranted life of the solar panels
- Equivalent to removing 183 passenger vehicle cars from our congested highways yearly
