SPG SOLAR, INC. NAMES NEW VICE PRESIDENT OF STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT
Industry Expert Stephen McKenery To Lead Acquisition of Large-Scale Commercial and
Governmental Projects Worldwide
San Rafael, CA … November 18, 2005 SPG Solar, Inc., (SPG) one of the nation’s leaders in the integrated development, design and construction of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, has named Stephen McKenery as Vice President of Strategic Development. In this role, Mr. McKenery will assess and acquire large-scale commercial, government, industrial and utility-scale solar PV projects globally for SPG.
“Having Steve in this position is a tremendous fit for our company,” said Dan Thompson, SPG’s President. “He has been involved with alternative energy since solar panels were the pipedream of engineers in laboratories. He is one of the main players who has helped mainstream solar PV, and has developed or directed more than 500 energy projects using distributed generation technologies, as well as large utility base load hydroelectric, fossil-fuel, nuclear, coal, gas and renewable energy facilities. No one in the industry has greater experience, savvy, integrity – or a better reputation and ability to develop large-scale commercial solar projects. As SPG moves into its next stage of growth, well beyond California and US borders, having Steve’s expertise and demonstrated ability to acquire and develop major energy projects will be invaluable.”
Prior to joining with SPG, McKenery held senior management positions at Bechtel Power Corporation, SCE, Solar Utility Company, Friendly Energy, and PowerLight Corporation, as well as at Edison International, where he directed Edison’s world-class R&D technology deployment program. He also founded AMD Energy in 2003 to offer comprehensive distributed generation energy solutions and consulting services to commercial and industrial clients in the public and private sectors.
McKenery holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, and an M.B.A. from Claremont Graduate University. He is a member of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), the American Solar Energy Society (ASES), and the California Alliance for Distributed Energy Resources (CADER).
About SPG Solar, Inc.
SPG is the industry's most experienced developer, designer, and installer of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for homes, businesses, and large-scale commercial and government facilities. SPG's commitment is to build the highest-performing solar PV systems with the highest return on investment. The result is clean, reliable electricity that reduces or eliminates customers' electric utility costs. SPG was founded in 2001 in response to California’s rolling blackouts and soaring energy prices. SPG designs and constructs the most powerful large-area on-site solar energy systems in the nation. Recent projects include the 1.18 (DC) megawatt Butte County Solar Center, which received the largest renewable energy rebate in California history totaling $4.2 million in 2004; and the 1.06 (DC) megawatt Butte College system, one of the largest community college solar installations in the country. SPG is currently completing a solar PV system for the Kentfield School District in Marin County, which will make it the first and only school district in California that is 100% solar.
