SPG Solar, Inc. Awarded in “Business Achievement” by the Marin Economic Commission
Eighth Annual Awards of Excellence Luncheon held to honor outstanding local businesses and organizations
November 30, 2006 (San Rafael, CA) – SPG Solar, Inc. was awarded in the category of “Business Achievement” during the Eighth Annual Marin Economic Commission’s (MEC) Awards of Excellence Luncheon held earlier this month. Nominees in this category were judged on outstanding accomplishments in the areas of entrepreneurial success, job creation, business expansion, new product creation, and/or exemplary ‘best practices’ which enhance the viability of the business and the local economy.
SPG Solar was recognized for its rapid growth and success in bringing solar energy to homes, businesses, schools and public works facilities. Since it’s founding in 2001, SPG has installed over 1.7 MW of solar in Marin County alone and continues to be an industry leader as one of the largest solar PV system integrators in the nation.
“We are honored to receive the MEC Business Achievement Award for 2006. Marin County is an ideal place for green businesses to foster and grow,” said Dan Thompson, President and CEO of SPG Solar.
“SPG Solar began with a small office in San Rafael, CA and a handful of employees. Today, we still retain our headquarters there, with 4 additional satellite offices throughout Northern and Southern California, totaling over 70 employees. We have also expanded beyond solar system design and installation and are developing innovative solar products for the industry through Thompson Technology Industries, Inc. (TTI), a company also founded in Marin County. A large part of California’s solar industry development occurred right here in Marin,” said Thompson.
As a Bay Area Green Business Partner, SPG Solar has held solar training events with top industry experts for bay area city and county permitting officials and various other local organizations. SPG Solar also designed and installed solar systems for the Kentfield School District, making it the first 100% solar school district in the country.
